Talk About.

Bold Drift Fly Guides was born in the cold, clear headwaters of the South Carolina Blue Ridge — where wild trout still hold in pocket water under rhododendron and the morning fog burns off slow.

Whether it's your first time threading line through a guide or your hundredth, we put you on the right water, with the right fly, at the right moment. The mountains do the rest.

Waters We Run

We chase wild and native trout across the best of the Blue Ridge — four signature rivers, each fishing best at its own time of year.

01 / Wild & Scenic

The Chattooga

A National Wild & Scenic freestone river on the SC–GA–NC line. Tumbling pocket water, wild browns and rainbows, and dry-fly drifts you don't forget.

Freestone
02 / Headwaters

The East Fork

Intimate, tucked-away headwater freestone in the NC Blue Ridge. Tight casts under rhododendron for wild fish that earn every drift.

Wild & Native
03 / Big Water

French Broad

One of the oldest rivers on earth. Broad, ancient water in the upper river holds strong browns and rainbows — perfect for stretching out a cast.

Walk & Wade
04 / Tailwater

Green River

A cold, technical tailwater below Lake Summit running wild browns and a strong delayed-harvest stretch. Fishes hot when other water won't.

Year-Round
Heads up on licenses: a North Carolina or South Carolina fishing license is required depending on which water we fish — we'll tell you exactly which one when you book.

Before You Cast

Not at all. Every guided trip includes premium rods, reels, lines, flies, leaders, and tippet. We'll also have waders and boots in common sizes — just bring layers, a hat, and your fishing license.

It's our favorite kind of trip. The Half-Day Wade is built for total beginners — we cover casting, knots, and reading water before you ever step in. Most first-timers land a fish.

Honestly? Year-round. Spring and fall are prime for dry-fly action and delayed-harvest water. Summer means cool high-elevation freestone at dawn, and the Green River tailwater can be lights-out through the winter.

Yes — and which one depends on where we fish. Our waters span both Carolinas, so you'll need either a North Carolina or a South Carolina freshwater license. It's the angler's responsibility, takes two minutes online, and we'll tell you exactly which state to buy when you book.

Trout love a little rain, so we fish through most weather. If conditions become unsafe (lightning, blown-out water), we'll reschedule or refund your deposit, no hassle.
